About Bengt Washburn
Originally from Utah, Bengt grew up the youngest son in a small Mormon family (7 kids) in a large Utah town (2000 people). At nineteen he was given a ten speed bike, two polyester suits and a plane ticket to Seattle Washington where he served his two year tour of religious duty as a missionary for the LDS (Mormon) church. He returned home two years later with buns of steel and life experiences that would translate into twenty minutes of solid comedy material.
In the early 1990s Bengt picked up a graduate degree and a serious coffee habit. He began doing standup comedy full time in 1997. In 2000 he married an officer in the US Airforce. As a result he has lived in Las Vegas, Idaho, Monterey CA, Stuttgart, Germany and now Washington D.C.
In 2001 Bengt won the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition. He has since appeared on Comedy Central‘s Live at Gotham, the Late Late Show with Craig Fergusenand on Conan on TBS. He has performed in forty states, on four continents, at the 2002 Winter Olympics and in Canada.
He has been invited to perform at the Boston Comedy Festival, the Vancouver International Comedy Festival and the Aspen Laff Festival where his performance was broadcast live on XMSirius Radio. Bengt has three comedy CDs and one Comedy DVD. Three of his comedy CDs get extensive play time on XMSiriusradio. He‘s been on the Bob and Tom Morning Show, NPR and PRI.
In real life Bengt is described as ditzy and logistically impaired, but his act is described as intelligent, accessible, insightful, original and hilarious.
